Perhaps no division deserves as much respect and appreciation as the financial hub of a company. It is here that due diligence is exercised, effective controls are introduced and maintained and the sustainability of a company is guaranteed.
Reporting to and directed by the board (which is chaired by Joe Gumede), Bosasa's financial division under the leadership of, Angelo Agrizzi, Andries van Tonder and Carlos Bonifacio all of whom report to the board, has no peer. This frees COO Angelo Agrizzi up to operationalise an advanced strategy through the Bosasa A team. The comprehensive Bosasa team comprises 49 members of staff from specialised fields, each contributing to the smooth running of the Group.
Bosele celebrates the division and its sub-units to make things happen: Payroll (salaries and wages), Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Petty Cash, DCS Administration and General Ledger. Accounts uses Great Plains Dynamics, a Microsoft state of the art Sequel based accounting software, customised to provide essential outputs.
Carlos is proud of his team's achievements in turn and his report to Joe Gumede and the board is overwhelming. Here is a typical day in his own words. "We need to run the biggest catering contract in the Southern Hemisphere efficiently. The Bosasa leadership team recognised that a technology solution was the only way to meet stakeholder needs. We had to manage stock levels, cost analysis, correct reporting and control of nutritional value of meals, stock rotation, re-order levels, daily stock issues from stores as well as the accurate preparation of billing records for ourselves and our clients. To achieve this we developed a custom Web-based solution, KAS. It is designed to integrate with Microsoft Great Plains which controls and record the voluminous data emanating from the DCS kitchens that Bosasa operates throughout the Republic. Main board Director and Chairman of full facilities management for the group, Ishmael Mncwaba monitors its efficacy ensuring that benchmarks set by the board are met. Centralised controllers monitor the distribution processes under his watch. This allows employees access to reliable, accurate information in real-time, as well as an improved customer experience through the electronic accessibility of information and processes. KAS, which stands for Kitchen Administration System, is updated as necessary in house as are other enhancements to Great Plains.
The Finance unit cooperates with other units. "For the new DOJ Security contract spearheaded by Group Chairman Joe Gumede, the IT team developed a database that controls and assists in the preparation of the invoicing to DOJ. Payroll and Accounts Receivable, the most affected accounting divisions by the DOJ contract, have absorbed the additional work through intelligent planning and dedication without taking on any extra staff." All these other operational areas fall under the Bosasa Group COO Angelo Agrizzi who is accountable to the board.
With this superior software Carlos Bonifacio in consultation with the executive, is able to produce answers to any financial question. This enables rapid responses to any rising situation.
Some statistics make us pay attention: Accounts processes approximately 59 500 journals in an average month. The integration journal from VIP to Great Plains alone contains more than 4000 lines. This is classified as one entry in Great Plains. Payroll processes on average 5350 employees a month. Petty cash has 56 sites under its control.
The buck stops here
Having the right software and statistics at your fingertips may mean little. http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifKnowing how to interpret the data for the good of the company is the skill that sets our financial team apart. The ability to make rapid informed decisions has always been the silver thread of a financially solid organisation and market leader" shares Angelo Agrizzi. Our Finance Division is the glue of the Group, anchoring it further with a loyal dedicated team who will tell you that working with figures, data and statistics is their passion. Carlos informally describes his team as both the scorekeeper and referee of Bosasa. Enter their world and you know you are in the presence of both left and right brained thinkers. The rest of us tend to dominate with one hemisphere. You enter hallowed ground.
